The Scion xB is a box on wheels. Completely redesigned for the 2008 model year, it is now in its second generation, a bit less boxy looking than the first generation models (2004-2007). For 2010, the only changes are to the audio systems.
When it comes to interior space, you can't beat a box. Utility-wise, the xB is somewhat like the Honda Fit, with front-wheel drive, five doors, room for five passengers, good cargo space and lots of versatility. But it looks nothing like the Fit.
Inside, there is lots of cargo capacity, and versatility is enhanced with front seats that fully recline and 60/40-split rear seats that drop flat with one pull of a lever. So, not only does the Scion xB do a good job of hauling passengers, it quickly converts into a little utility van, as well.
Power is from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and utilizes Toyota's Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) to help deliver a broad torque band and good fuel economy; the xB is EPA-rated at 22/28 mpg City/Highway with either the standard five-speed manual transmission or the optional four-speed automatic.

The xB features electric power steering, which does away with belts, pulleys and hydraulic fluid. All in all, the xB is nimble, responsive and fun to drive around town.
For 2010, new audio systems include a standard Pioneer unit with iPod/USB connectivity, a programmable welcome message screen, and an RCA output. An optional Alpine Premium system includes a 4.3-inch color touch-screen monitor, HD Radio technology, and optional navigation.

The 2012 xB Release Series 9.0 comes painted exclusively in Hot Lava, making sure it attracts attention wherever it goes. We’ve already seen a string of concept cars and more than a dozen spy shots, but now we have an exclusive spy video of the upcoming rear-wheel drive sports coupe being developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru. Akira And The Scion xB: Standing Out. As the news was blaring about the nightmare in Japan, all I could think of was an anime classic film called Akira that was heavy-duty post-apocalyptic and full of crazy motorcycles and cars, among other wild stuff. Then I thought, why think only of the bad and look instead for some good, and in this case, I wanted to find a good ad by a Japanese car maker and I happened along a relatively cool ad from Toyota that was sourced from Down Under.
It’s for the 2011 Scion/Toyota xB, which only recently crossed the border into Canada and has started to make its way across the globe. The car is quite unique looking, but a far cry from the first generation xB that was a small box on wheels and had a huge cult following all over the place. While the 2011 xB is much more conventional and mainstream, it still stands out in terms of exterior and interior design. Scion/Toyota really wants it to be different, and they make it highly customizable giving each one a unique character.
An then there is this short ad, which by no means moves the goal posts in any creative way, but it does make you focus on the vehicle in question. I like the music, which also reminded me of Akira again, hence the link to Japan, but also to how the ad agency did a good job of focusing the viewer on the car. They make all the other vehicles see-through and choose a really bright, almost too light blue against a dark background to make sure you see the car. No claims of horsepower, efficiency, price, safety, or anything practical. Just the car. Granted the ad is barely 30 seconds long, but in that short time, I got pulled in. I think the eerie music and the visuals all work well together.

Image via WikipediaThe Scion xD is a modest little hatchback but it's very well-executed. I like its looks. I used it to run errands around town on the day before Thanksgiving, and I was thrilled with its in-town visibility and the ease with which I slid into a tight parking space at the always-crowded Ann Arbor Farmers Market. The ergonomics and utility of the interior are impressive. Very good steering feel, accurate and quick. I didn't even mind the automatic transmission, even though the 1.8-liter four-cylinder makes a modest 128 hp.
For $16,565, it's a lot of car and also not a lot of car. The carpeting is thin and cheap, and the interior lighting isn't much. But stability control, ABS, lots of air bags, and a nine-speaker stereo are standard, plus A/C and cruise control. For this price, I shouldn't be complaining.

The first generation of the Scion xB was a modified version of a compact vehicle Toyota bB. The first modifications of this vehicles were presented in 2004 and they were based on the Toyota ist. The only engine available for Scion xB was a 108hp offered with a manual 5-speed and automatic 4 speed transmissions. The models produced in 2004-2006 did not include side airbags. The Scion xB received 'Good' scores in the frontal offset crash test and in the roof strength test held by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. After the tests, the car was graced with the Top Safety Pick Award.

In 2007 the second-generation Scion xB debuted at the Chicago Auto Show. And the vehicle production commenced the same year. The outer design of the car was borrowed from the concept car t2B, which was presented at the New York Auto Show in 2006. The only engine available for this model was a 103hp 4-cylinder equipped with manual and automatic transmissions. Antiskid and ABS systems were standard for all the vehicles.

The seats are comfortable and roomy, and the vehicle has been praised for the amount of front row space. One complaint, though: There is no telescopic steering wheel, which can give some drivers an awkward driving position.
